The Community Kiosk Service Platform, led by Horizon IoT, addresses the growing issue of homelessness by providing essential resources and fostering community collaboration. These kiosks act as resource hubs, offering services to improve quality of life and community integration.
The platform includes health and well-being services such as AI-driven health checks, real-time nurse consultations, and medication reminders. It also features a resource locator and navigation system using AI for personalized assistance, identifying nearby shelters and food banks, and offering directions to resources.
For job and skill support, the kiosks display job opportunities, assist with resume building, and offer online courses. Multilingual support is available through translation services. Hygiene resources include a public restroom locator and information on hygiene kits.
Safety features provide alerts for extreme weather and identify safe areas like 24-hour community centers. Community engagement is promoted by sharing information about government programs, local events, and peer support networks. The platform also helps users find affordable housing and connects them with local agencies.
In 2023, over 650,000 people experienced homelessness in the U.S., a 12% increase from the previous year. Contributing factors include mental illness, insufficient income, lack of affordable housing, domestic violence, and drug addiction. Addressing these root causes through comprehensive support services is essential to mitigating this crisis.
Horizon IoT leads a coalition of technology partners to create an end-to-end solution for homelessness. The planned pilot targets areas with high homeless populations, using stationary and portable kiosks for effective outreach. The pilot program will be deployed in strategic locations such as city centers, shopping malls, libraries, and transit centers.
The initial pilot costs are covered by a grant, with long-term sustainability ensured through partnerships with major corporations. An Operational Expenditure (OPEX) model will be introduced to municipalities to reduce costs and streamline operations. Progress will be measured by tracking the number of individuals served, the effectiveness of interventions, and the overall reduction in homelessness.
Supported by 4G and 5G connectivity, data from stakeholders will be securely stored in a multi-cloud system for real-time updates. By integrating IoT, RFID, 5G, and AI, the kiosks ensure information is current and reliable, making them a leading solution for supporting homeless individuals.
